About Us

Welcome to Dispute Mediations.

 Mediation is an alternative to court used to resolve any dispute between any two parties - individuals, businesses, organisations or groups. Also known as alternative dispute resolution, facilitative, solutions-focused Mediation is a productive process that can deliver wise outcomes, more quickly and cost-effectively with less stress.  Mediation by skilled mediators has proven it to be highly effective in resolving disputes. Attending mediation is generally voluntary but some mediations are ordered by the courts. Before you apply for mediation you should be willing to meet with the other party to resolve the dispute.

Dispute Mediation Services provide mediations at our SEQ venues in Brisbane, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, or by online video/Zoom conference. We can also come to you at a location anywhere in Australia.

CAN MEDIATION HELP YOUR SITUATION?

There are cooperative ways of negotiating differences on a range of issues for almost any conflict or dispute. Mediation is a non-adversarial facilitative method that helps people settle disputes as an option to avoid escalating an issue to the courts. Mediation is for any parties, groups, organisations or businesses that wish to instigate a meeting to solve issues. Taking part in mediation can save time, legal fees and court costs for you and the community. Here is a comparison table of mediation costs verses legal costs.

    Mediation has been referred to as preventative law. As mediation becomes a compulsory part of the judicial process in many areas, more and more people are using mediation first, because it works and it is highly cost effective!

    Dispute Mediations' nationally accredited mediators are good listeners who are highly skilled and trained in being impartial for the non-adversarial mediation process. This has proven to be effective in assisting two parties to explore potential solutions together. Ultimately, these possible outcomes may be agreed upon for satisfactory results on both sides.

    Even if a ‘win-win’ solution cannot be found, a wise agreement can still often be reached that is better for both sides than the alternative – an agreement both parties can live with arrived at for far fewer costs and time than the court process. Mediation has shown in many cases to maximise the chance of maintaining amicable relations after your dispute is resolved.

Angela Dennis

BSc/LLB (Hons), Accredited Mediator (NMAS)

Angela holds degrees in Law and Science, and is a qualified and registered facilitative mediator. She is a practitioner member of the Australian Dispute Resolution Association and performs facilitative mediation both in-person and online.

Angela's affinity for helping people to resolve conflicts began many years ago, when in her youth, she was known for assisting her peers with their relationship disputes. Though training and experience have formalised Angela's dispute resolution process, the core principles of her approach remain;

  • sharing perspectives
  • listening openly
  • providing a space for parties to find a lasting resolution.

Facilitative mediation offers an alternative to formal and rigid legal processes, which insist on a 'winner' and a 'loser'. Having studied law and worked in the legal profession, Angela has seen first-hand that the law is often incapable of delivering an adequate resolution to many disputes.

Mediation empowers parties in dispute to achieve their own resolution, so that in effect, there will be 'two winners'. This is the vision which inspires Angela in her work as a mediator, enabling her to engage with a wide variety of people and organisations to find solutions to any kind of dispute.
